The Dunstan Hill Site is now located in a peaceful area of the country, a mile from the rugged North Northumberland Heritage Coast. Its past, however, included 400 years of violence and unrest and the results of this can be seen in the castles and fortifications all around. The site is on the bus route from Berwick in the north to Newcastle in the south. The glorious beaches of the North Northumberland Heritage Coast are a mile away. Embleton Bay has a wide, golden sandy beach which few others have discovered. Golfers staying on site get a ten per cent discount off the golfing fees at the nearby Embleton 18-hole course. One mile from site is Embleton village where you’ll find a shop, post office and petrol station.

You’ll never get crowds at this spot. You might, however, get barrelled at this A frame beachbreak. When the wind blows from the north or south this spot becomes a classic cross shore location for windsurfers. The beach is wide and the water crystal clear. The only reef of note is Jenny Bells on the northerly side of the bay which is only hiden on big tides. Newton Bay further to the North offers a sheltered area. It is ideal for beginners even with offshore winds when the tide is out. Click here for NEKitesurfing’s guide to the Northumberland coast.
