In this stressful world, we all need to rest, relax and recharge our batteries from time to time. Durness is a “timeless” place and has so much to offer visitors. 100 miles west of John o Groats on the north coast is Durness the most northwesterly inhabited locality on mainland Britain. The corner of the Scottish Highlands and is accessible by single tract road . The A838 winds its way around this part. Keoldale is two miles south from the village of Durness. Durness village provides 2 grocery shops a filling station and post office. A crofting village spread out along the coast, Durness is basically a string of hamlets. One of the highlights of the year is the Durness Highland Gathering, which takes place at the end of July. Keoldale is a family run Bed and Breakfast. It provides comfortable accommodation in an informal friendly atmosphere. We have two guest bed rooms. The Blue Room overlooking the Kyle of Durness £18 per person per night and the Red Room, £16 per person per night. Both have Television, Central Heating, tea and coffee facilities. We can accommodate dogs by arrangement and special rates for children who are very welcome. A varied breakfast selection is always on offer.
The water in Sango Bay/Durness is as clear as it gets and it is nicely sheltered from adverse winds. This is an inspiring set up and the waves can barrel at low tide. Click here for a guide to NW Scotland’s best spots.
