Northumberland
North Northumberland is commonly referred to as the Secret Kingdom and is truly one of the UK’s best kept secrets. For a combination of amazing location and accommodation, you would be hard pressed to beat what’s on offer at Waren Mill. This site has sophisticated wooden huts that overlook the beach offering a back to basics experience without the chaos, cold and discomfort of camping. What’s more, they hold amazing views over Holy Island and Budle Lagoon, perfect for those post-session tinnies.
For surfers, Northumberland comes into its own outside of summertime when swells march down the North Sea wreaking havoc along the entire coast. The most consistent break in the area is around the gothic Bamburgh Castle which dominates the Northumbrian landscape and makes riding here a surreal experience. Budle Lagoon is just one of many fantastic kitesurfing spots and works in a wind direction that would otherwise be offshore along most of the Northumberland coastline. All beaches in the area are beautiful and spotlessly clean with crowds unheard of in the water.
