The quays still teem with yachts and fishing boats in the port of Wells, where you’ll find this newly-opened hostel in the heart of the town. It’s a fine base from which to indulge in flora and fauna forays into the surrounding countryside. Follow creeks and salt marshes busy with birdlife, enjoy miles of empty beaches or take a boat at high tide to see seals. Explore the network of footpaths leading inland and you’ll discover ancient churches, flint villages and welcoming pubs. For the fit, the North Norfolk Coast Path is temptingly close.
